New 3D-Printed Ammo Crates in Development: US .50/.45 Cal & British B167

At ScaleCraft Studios, our mission is to bring authentic, high-detail accessories to scale modellers and diorama builders who value realism. The latest additions to our ForgeCraft range continue that tradition — two iconic ammunition crates recreated in intricate 3D detail:
the US .50 /.45 Cal Ammo Crate and the British B167 Ammo Crate.

Whether you’re building a World War II scene, a restoration diorama, or an armoury display, these new models are designed to give your builds an unmistakably authentic touch.

US .50 /.45 Cal Ammunition Crate – Design Complete & Test Printing Underway

The US .50 /.45 Cal ammo crate has now reached the test-printing stage following a detailed design phase.
Based on period-accurate reference photos and measurements, the model replicates every feature of the original wooden crate — from the interlocking plank structure and realistic surface grain to the reinforced metal strap brackets on the lid.

Each digital detail has been optimised for high-resolution resin printing, ensuring sharp edges, clean separation between boards, and crisp hardware even at small scales. The first test prints are being produced to evaluate surface texture, wall thickness, and fit across different resin types and print settings.

When released, the crate will be available in 1/35, 1/48, and 1/16 scale, ideal for both historical military modellers and custom builders looking for realistic accessories for armour, aircraft, or figure bases.

British B167 Ammunition Crate – Currently in 3D Design Phase

Next in line is the British B167 Ammo Crate, currently in the 3D design and detailing phase.
This model aims to capture the distinctive structure of wartime British ammunition storage boxes — simple, robust, and instantly recognisable by their reinforced timber corners and signature lift handles.

The design process focuses on scale accuracy, printability, and texture fidelity. Every plank and fastener is modelled to scale, ensuring the final resin print conveys the characteristic craftsmanship and ruggedness of original B167 crates used across Allied supply depots.

Once modelling is finalised, the crate will move to print testing before joining the ForgeCraft lineup — offering modellers another essential addition to authentic British WWII dioramas.

Authentic Details for Serious Model Builders

Both ammo crates are part of our ongoing effort to produce museum-grade miniature accessories that look and feel authentic straight out of the printer.
We take inspiration from original wartime blueprints, historical archives, and surviving examples to ensure every rivet, joint, and woodgrain texture reflects real-world construction methods.

Our models are digitally sculpted, refined, and tested using high-precision resin 3D printers like the Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra, optimised for crisp detailing even at small scales. Every design undergoes multiple test-print cycles to ensure durability, ease of cleanup, and visual impact once painted.

What’s Next for ForgeCraft & ScaleCraft Studios

With these two ammunition crates in production, our next steps include:

  • Completing test prints and paint-ready prototypes for the US .50 /.45 Cal crate.

  • Advancing the B167 crate into prototype and print-testing stages.

  • Preparing release packs featuring optional stencilling, decal sets, and crate stacks for diorama layout flexibility.

These crates will soon join our growing ForgeCraft range of 3D printed WWII & modern military accessories, which includes ordnance, maintenance equipment, and diorama props.
